PDUs - Professional Development Units
Started in April 2001, Xtraplus provides solutions through consulting education / training and support for
PMI requires that PMPs maintain their certification by obtaining PDUs . 60 PDUs are required over the certification cycle of 3 years. PMI has specified the category of activities qualifying for PDUs in the CCR ( Continuous Certfication Requirements) Handbook .
There are many ways by which one can obtain PDUs . While the CCR handbook lists them , the most favourable ways could be
- Attending courses , seminars ,conferences conducted by training companies, consultants and educational institutions
All courses in Advanced project management and Short Courses from Xtraplus qualify for PDUs under category D as per PMI's nomenclature . There are other ways to get PDUs as well.
- Becoming a Volunteer with PMI either for particpation in standards development or as a committee member in many of the governance committees . While the latter may require some experience either professionally or in PMI related work , standards development usually are open to all – in most cases even to non PMI members or PMPs .
- Getting involved in local PMI chapter activities – either as an office bearer / committee member or in teaching some of the PMP prepartion courses .
- Creating avenues for SDL or self directed learning – informal discussions , assisting in course preparation
